I'm Channing McCorriston, The Container Guy.
Here's the installation instructions for installing this half glass in a man door.
There's different glass options for the doors. We typically offer a sight glass,
which is just the smaller glass portion that allows you to see in and out.
And then there's the half glass, which is pretty much half the door.
You can see, it is a large window going in here, so you got to be
very careful where you're cutting, that you leave some structure to the door.
And because this door has panic hardware on the inside, we have to be very careful
that we leave enough room for the the lip of the frame for the glass.
Another thing to note on the glass topic is that there's two different types. Typically,
you can get the wired glass, which is meant for fire rated doors. But
you can't temper wired glass, so it's about half as strong as tempered glass.
So if you're not needing your door to be fire rated, go with the tempered glass.
It'll be twice as strong, and it's a nice clear finish so it's easier to see out of.
This included butyl tape, it goes on the inside flange
prior to putting the window in once it's all ready to go in the door.
And then your window would go on top, and then another layer for the interior flange.
Be very careful, don't put this on until you're ready because once this stuff touches the window
you can hardly get that window out it tacks, you know, it's super sticky so.
Have everything fitted, working perfectly, and then install your butyl tape.
As you can see when you cut into the door, uh it can change the door thickness so.
Four of these retainer clips are included with the window, and then these here keep the door at the
right thickness, so that that window kit when it installs, everything sits together nice and flush.
So the boys have the glass butyl taped into the outside frame,
so now we just need to lift it up into place. Then insert the inside frame, and then
all the screws that hold it all together and in place.
Now you'll be screwing through the inside frame and it catches the other frame, so
the self-tapping screws will just go inside here, and then that just sandwiches it all together.
The only thing to be careful here is that,
because that door can flex, like if you're not -- you might need to grab a bessey clamp or something
to squeeze this together, or you know, matt can push on the one side and I can push on the other.
Now you see how that comes nice and tight,
and then get all your self-tappers in all the way around.
These Phillips and Robertson head screws are kind of uh ignorant, and it'd be way better if they
provided you a hex driven head, but whatever, just stick with them and you'll get them in.
And that right there is how you do it.
